Recorded locally
Audio is captured and saved on your own machine. No recordings are uploaded automatically to any cloud service — they stay where you can see them.
Windows app for meetings
referat records the meeting, transcribes it and writes finished minutes — summary, decisions and action items. You decide where the AI runs. Nothing leaves your machine unless you choose it.

Privacy by design
referat is built so sensitive conversations never have to leave your company against your will.
Audio is captured and saved on your own machine. No recordings are uploaded automatically to any cloud service — they stay where you can see them.
Run the AI locally on your machine, on your company's internal server or with a cloud provider. The choice is yours — and you can change it at any time.
The app is free to download and use. If you run your own or a local AI, you pay nothing extra — no monthly fees, no accounts.
How it works
From install to shareable minutes without a manual. No terminal, no technical terms.
Press one big button. referat captures both your microphone and the meeting's system audio — whether you're in Teams, Zoom or a physical room.
When you stop, the app transcribes and summarizes automatically. You get a summary, decisions and action items with owners — plus a fully searchable transcript. Turn on speaker identification and the transcript also shows who said what.
Export to Word or Markdown, or copy straight into an email. The minutes are editable and ready to send to the participants.
For IT
referat doesn't lock you into a vendor. Transcription and summarization are configured independently against any OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

Frequently asked questions
No. The app is free to download and use. If you run the AI locally or against your company's own server, there are no additional costs. If you use a cloud service like OpenAI, you only pay that provider's usual fee directly to them.
Yes, as an optional feature. A small open-source companion server labels the transcript by speaker ("Speaker 1", "Speaker 2"), and you can rename the labels — the names carry into the minutes. IT can host one server for the whole office, or power users run it on their own machine. There's also an opt-in setting that recognizes saved voices at later meetings and suggests the name — always as a suggestion you confirm, never applied silently. See the setup guide.
Locally on your machine. Audio files, transcripts and minutes are saved on your computer. Nothing is uploaded automatically — the app only talks to endpoints you chose yourself: text goes to your AI service for transcription and summarization, and the optional speaker identification talks only to a local server you run.
Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint for transcription and chat, plus Anthropic for summarization. That includes local servers (such as Ollama), OpenAI, Azure OpenAI and your own internal endpoint. Transcription and summarization are set up separately.
Yes. referat records your computer's system audio and therefore works regardless of which meeting tool you use — Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or a physical meeting in the room. No plugin or integration is needed, and no bot joins the call.
No. A guide walks you through first launch and everything is configured through a friendly, plain-language interface. You never need to open a terminal. If you want to run the AI against your company server, IT gives you an address to paste in.
A local AI server on your machine (such as Ollama for the minutes and a Whisper-compatible service for transcription). Our Local AI setup guide walks you through it step by step. A reasonably modern computer with enough memory is recommended — otherwise the cloud or server mode works just as well.
The app interface is currently Swedish, and the default minutes template produces Swedish minutes (the transcription follows the spoken language). An English UI is on the roadmap. This website and the documentation are in English.
